What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that is naturally present in very few foods. In the past, it was thought the main function of vitamin D was to regulate the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in our bones and aid in cell to cell communication throughout the body.

What are the Benefits of Vitamin D?

Nowadays, one of the main benefits of Vitamin D apart from supporting healthy bones is boosting the immune system.  Vitamin D assists the body with calcium absorption - if calcium is not absorbed properly, bodily systems in need will take it from the bones. Vitamin D also supports the immune system, strengthens breast, colon and pancreas health.

One of the recent reports has found that kids taking vitamin D supplements can reduce the chance of catching the flu, and that in adults; it can improve bone health and reduce the incidence of fractures.

Note: If you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medication or have a medical condition, please consult your healthcare practitioner before taking any dietary supplement. Keep out of reach of children.

What are the Sources to Get Vitamin D?

One of the primary natural sources of Vitamin D is the sun, so supplementation can be essential during winter, in northern climates, and during summer if you use sunscreen. Vitamin D absorption declines with age. Of all the vitamins that have been researched, vitamin D is by far the most beneficial to take in supplement form.
